The international economic and political situations have changed dramatically in the last few years; thus, it may be time to revisit the subject of the international competitiveness of China, Japan, Russia, India, the European Union, the Middle and Near East, and the United States.  The course approach of examining this subject will include a brief study of the history of each country or region, a discussion of the relevant cultural factors, and a short analysis of the recent economic and political events that have influenced the international competitiveness of these countries/regions.


Week One: China

Week Two: India and Russia

Week Three: Japan

Week Four: The European Union

Week Five: The Middle and Near East

Week Six: The United States


James Sood is Professor Emeritus of marketing and International Business at American University.  He has taught a number of courses for WC-ALL in the area of international culture, economics, and politics, and looks forward to leading the discussion in this course.
