Green buildings, green cleaning products, green homes, green parenting!  What do these things mean?  Why has green come front and center in our culture?

This class will look briefly at the environmental movements of the past 50-75 years.  Following this brief historical perspective, today’s most popular green themes will be examined.  We will attempt to review the evidence for risk or harm, identify whether there is regulatory oversight, and discuss potential changes to make our day-to-day lives, more green.

Jean Austin is the University of Maryland Cooperative Extension Educator for Family and Consumer Science in Kent and Queen Anne’s counties.  This position requires her to research many consumer questions and concerns.  In 2007 she spent a lot of time searching for the truth about green.
