This course will explore the role of alternative conflict resolution strategies as they are practiced in the U.S. today. Amply demonstrated by popular TV shows, America is infatuated with conflict and going to court. This course will introduce a parallel phenomenon, the growing movement of ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) strategies available to those who find themselves in conflict with others.
Session 1: A mock mediation demonstration with two mediators and two participants, discussion to follow.
Session 2: Alternative Conflict Resolution Services available in the U.S. today, philosophies and methods.
Session 3: Edie Hanson, Executive Director of Community Mediation Upper Shore, guest lecture.
Session 4: Case Studies/Issues in Mediation
Charlotte Staelin served as Executive Director of Community Mediation Upper Shore in Chestertown until July of 2007. Since her retirement, she continues to conduct mediation sessions in Queen Anne’s, Kent and Cecil Counties.
