The history of American quilts is closely related to our social and political history and the progress of technology. We will discuss quilt styles through the 19th and 20th centuries and how they were influenced by other trends. Students will learn how to use quilt and fabric styles to date quilts. One session will be devoted to examining and discussing quilts brought in by the students.
Beverly Birkmire is a quilter and quilt collector. She began quilting 30 years ago and is a student of quilt and fabric history. She belongs to the American Quilt Study Group, The Olde Kent Quilters Guild, and numerous other quilt and community organizations. She and her husband, Ed, live in Chestertown.
